Wardrobe Capsule for the Apple(or O) Shaped Woman

Greetings Fashionistas!

Today, I'm sharing with you my closet capsule composed of essential pieces for the O shaped woman. If you are an all-over curvy woman without a defined waist, this is for you. When it comes to clothing your body shape, it's not always easy to choose the right tops or bottoms. The key here is to draw attention away from your middle, emphasize your waist and show off your legs.

How do you draw attention away from your middle? You can do so with a deep v-neck top or a chunky statement necklace. A cute belt or an empire waist top will emphasize your waist right away.

In this capsule, I've chose basic pieces in neutral colors. You can never go wrong with classics. Plus, you can mix and match to build oodles of outfits. If you need more inspiration, check out my Polyvore outfits.

Wardrobe Capsule for the Column(or I) Shaped Woman

Greetings Fashionistas!

Today, I'm sharing with you my closet essentials for the I-shaped woman. Basically, you have a boyish silhouette. That means your shoulders, bust, waist and thighs are the same width.

Your goal is to define your waist with belts. Avoid clothes that are too baggy or too fitted. Find clothes that skim your body.

Wardrobe Capsule for the Hourglass(or X) Shaped Woman

Greetings Fashionistas!

Today, I'm sharing with you my closet capsule for the X(or hourglass) shaped woman. This is the silhouette we strive to achieve with our clothes. It's the balance between the top and the bottom.

When it comes to dressing this type of body,  we tend to either wear tight clothes or baggy ones. Until I finally accepted my body, I used to go on the baggy side of fashion. Not quite sure I could flaunt my new body after the weight gain and loss. The trick is to wear clothes that skim your body--go for fitted(not clingy) clothes. Don't forgt to show off your waist too with a cute belt. Basically, you can wear anything you want. Confidence is key no matter what size you are at this moment.
Closet Essentials for the X Shaped Woman

In this fashion capsule, I chose the basic cuts and colors. This way, you can mix and match to create tons of outfits. I've also put in some pieces you can wear for date-night or the weekend. For more outfits ideas for weekend, casual or professional settings, check out my recent blogs. I've also created some awesome outsits on Polyvore.

Do you fit in the hourglass category? Not sure? Let me know. I'm here to help you!

Wardrobe Capsule for the Rectangle(or H) Shaped Woman

Greetings Fashionistas!

When it comes to dressing our body, it's not always easy. For this silhouette, your silhouette is on the boyish side. That means your curves are not as pronounced as the X(or hourglass) silhouette, for example. That doesn't mean you don't have any. Compared to the I-shaped silhouette, you have curves. Your silhouette is straight. Your shoulders, waist and hips are the same width, and you have sturdy thighs.

Untailored garments are perfect for your figure. Emphasize your legs with slim-fit trousers. Draw attention to your cleavage and not your waist.

Below, in this closet capsule I created for you, you will find some inspirations so you can mix and match to create outfits for your silhouette.

Wardrobe Capsule for the Strawberry(or V) Shaped Woman

Greetings Fashionistas!

Today, I share with you my Closet Capsule for V shaped women. If your shoulders are wider than your hips, then you fall in this category.

With this body type, it's important to bring the focus away from your shoulders. Flared skirts, skinny jeans and peplum tops are some good choices. As you can see in the picture below, I chose some classic pieces for business and for pleasure. And, all the pieces emphasize your body and bring out your natural beauty. Add some jewelry and a cute bag, and voila! For more looks, go to my Polyvore portfolio.

Closet Essentials for the V Shaped Woman

One additional style tip I would like to mention here is about handbags. Carry them in your hand, not on your shoulder. This way, the attention is placed on the bottom half of your body.

Do you fit in this category? Not sure? I created this body shape quiz to help you figure it out. Need help? Let me know.

Wardrobe Capsule for the Pear(or A) Shaped Woman

Greetings Fashionistas!

Every woman deserves to be beautiful. Wearing the right clothes certainly help. When we choose the right fit and color, our inner beauty shines through.

When it comes to our body shape, we are built in different ways. Sometimes, we aren't too sure how to dress our body because of weight gain(or weight loss) or a lack of confidence in ourselves. I know when I hit my forties, I had no longer had a clue how to dress. I felt like I was 20 years old, still do. But my body is no longer what is used to be. The reality is what it is, and when it comes to feeling our best, accepting our body the way it is, can only work in our favor.

That's why I created a series of Closet Essentials for every(main) body type. If you are not certain of your body type, I have a body type quiz just for you. Simply click here.

The series starts with the A shaped woman. If you are heavier on the bottom, then you fall in this category. These essentials are classic pieces composed of neutrals and prints. What is great with this closet capsule is that you can mix and match, and also one side for business attire and the other for weekend(casual).

Closet Capsule: Woman's Casual Wear

Greetings Fashionistas!

Today, I share with you a Closet Capsule for Weekend(Casual) Wear.  As I was going through my wardrobe, I found that most of my clothes are for the office. I used to work in an office building in downtown Montreal. So, that's why I have a lot of clothes I can only wear now on special occasions or business meetings with my fashion clients. Most of the time, I'm at home, researching the latest trends or shopping online.

If you are like me and work from home or have a closet full of Business attire, it's easy to get trapped in the fashion rut. Wearing the same clothes(leggings and t-shirt) every day. That's why I decided to refresh my closet and create a capsule so I can get inspired. Plus, this gives me an excuse to go shopping for whatever I don't have...hehe

These essentials are classic pieces. That means this capsule is composed of neutrals and classic prints like stripes and plaid. You can personalize your outfits with accessories like hats and scarves.

Classic Fashion Color Combinations

Greetings Fashionistas!

When it comes to color combinations, every season, designers concoct magical ones for our viewing pleasure. As fashionistas, we can also come up with our own combinations. In both cases, some work while others fizz out like trends.

So, after studying this subject, I discovered that classic fashion color combinations are the best way to go. They never go out of style. You always look stylish. Plus, mixing them up procures lots of fun.

Ready for some fun? Let me show you some of the outfits I created on Polyvore

1. Neutral colors worn together
Stylish

This method is timeless and flattering. It also provides flexibility in your wardrobe. Neutral colors are black, navy, white, brown, grey, khaki, burgundy and emerald. I added the last two because they work well together and with other neutrals. Plus, a color seen for more than a season is always a classic in my book.

2. Lighten a neutral with a pastel
Moto Jacket
Yes, pastels can be worn any season. However, in order to avoid wearing pastels from head-to-toe and seem too springy, adding a neutral makes the outfit stylish and classic.

3. Wear a neutral with trendy colors
Modern Victorian

Here, we can choose turquoise, tangerine, plum or taupe. These colors don't always come every season, but they are good choices when paring them with neutrals.

4. Mix your neutrals with prints, patterns and textures
Summer to Fall

Stripes, a leopard print or a brocade with a neutral. So, classy and chic!

5. Add some accessories
Finally, every outfit deserves and is never complete without a piece of statement jewelry, fun shoes, a trendy bag or a cute scarf.

Closet Essentials for a Classic Wardrobe

Greetings Fashionistas!

Today, I was going through my Pinterest feed and noticed a lot of closet capsules. A variety of images show how to basically organize your closet with basic essential pieces needed to mix and match your looks.

So, as a personal fashion stylist, I decided to create a capsule of my own with basic pieces that can go together without much effort. If you are like me, you don't want to break your head when it comes to getting ready in the morning for work or going out on a date.

The following is my fashion wardrobe capsule. Years of research and trial-and-error methods(which include plenty of fashion faux pas) have led me to sticking to classic pieces in classic colors. Of course, it doesn't mean you cannot have some fun with prints and colors, and mix in one or two trendy pieces(like velvet, which is going to be hot for fall).

Closet Essentials for a Classic Wardrobe

As you can see from this collection of pieces, I have stuck with the same palettes of colors. Nothing outrageous, and these pieces can be worn in every season. How great is that? The pieces I've chosen are my favorite colors, prints and cuts. They are inspirations based on classic silhouettes, and may not be your style. Go with you feel are made for you!

There you have it, fashionistas! Hope you like my first wardrobe capsule. Let me know what you think!

Top Trends for Autumn/Winter 2016-2017

Greetings Fashionistas!

As we enjoy our Summer vacation, retail stores are filling their shelves with new fashions and accessories. Before I go shopping, I want to know what will be in style, what I would like to wear, and what I wanted to simple admire from afar.

So, just for you, I did the research(thank you Pinterest) so you don't have to spend hours searching the net to find out what the style editors are suggesting for the upcoming cooler months.

Let's begin!

Here are the top trends(in no particular order)!

1. Colorful velvet
Renaissance Woman:

This trend I love. The richness of the fabric paired with jewel colors are the perfect combination.. Plus, if you like the Renaissance period, this trend is for you. Paired with the bell sleeves and corsets... sexy!

2. Sporty pullovers and girly skirts
Puffers and evening wear:
This trend is not for me. I like the sporty pullovers. I lived girly skirts. But not together. That said, you can try this trend out, and see if it is for you.

3. Patent leather
Patent Leather Trench Coats:
The runways had the patent leather in trenchcoats, shoes and dresses. This trend reminds me of the 80s(which is another trend this season). I don't mind the patent shoes for a vintage look, but I'm not sure about the full-on patent look.

4. Sherling
Tendance mode automne-hiver 2016-2017 Peaux lainées:
The sherling jacket is a classic for me. I like this trend.

5. Florals
Tendance mode automne-hiver 2016-2017 imprimés fleurs:
Yes, for autumn too as per the designers. It gives a vintage feel. I like that. But be careful! Too much and it will look like a carpet.

6. Off-the shoulder or one-shoulder tops
One-Arm Tops:
I like this trend...for summer and fall. Not sure how the off-the-shoulder would fit for winter when you live in the Canadian cold weather. I would wear this trend until it gets too cold... or for an evening look. All-in-all, you can never go wrong with showing off your shoulders.

7. Military jackets
Tendance mode automne-hiver 2016-2017 manteaux militaire:
This trend is for me. I've always loved the military look. Not the full on look, but touches like khaki and camouflage motif, and of course the double-breasted jackets with wide lapels. To this jacket, add the combat boots(which is another trend for the season). And, if you want to go glam, add some sparkling earrings.

8. Gloves
Fall/ Winter 2016-2017 Accessory Trends: Knitted Gloves:
Ornate, short and long. I love gloves. So this trend is for me. This season, I'm going for the detailed gloves. Add some jewelry over the gloves for a glam look!

9. Single statement earrings
The 22 Trends, Fashion Ideas, and Styling Tricks We Loved from Fall 2016:
This trend reminds me of the way I wore earrings in the 80s. As a teenage girl, I would find different ways to wear jewelry. And I remember wearing a long earring in one ear and a stud earring in the other. I love this trend, and this would be one for me, especially for a night out.

10. The capelet
Capelets:
This is trend for hourglass and triangular silhouettes. This gives volume in the shoulders so it might not be for every body type. However, a nice feminine blouse with a capelet can be elegant.

11. The Victorian lady
Tendance mode automne-hiver 2016-2017 Victorienne:
Collars, sleeves, lace, black, corsets, pearls... everything the modern-day lady would need. I love this lady-like trend... in moderation. Wear a lace high-collar neck blouse with a pinstripe suit(which is also hot for the season).

12. The tartan and the Prince of Wales Check
Tendance mode automne-hiver 2016-2017 Prince de galles:
I like these prints. They are classic. Found in coats and in dresses. A British touch to a wardrobe is always a must-have. Mix these masculine materials with a feminine touch. Elegant.

13. Fur pop
Tendance mode automne-hiver 2016-2017 fourrures colorées:
Colors, motifs and mix with wool. Fake or real. Fur is back for the new season. I like this trend. Keeps me warm and stylish.

14. The biker vest
Tendance mode automne-hiver 2016-2017 Veste de biker féminisée:
This season, the masculine jacket comes with a feminine touch. And so beautiful! With touches of flowers, jewels or shiny metals.. For a night out. Yes, please.

15. Chokers
The Statement Choker:
Rigid or fragile. Made with metals or velvet. It must cover your neck. Think of Victorian ladies but with a modern twist. Love.

15. The colors of the season
Pink & Yellow:
Bubble gum pink, navy blue, mustard yellow, purple, cinammon red, silver. Not too sure about the pastels but mixed with jeweled colors, the new color combinations could be quite nice.

16. The embellished guitar straps
Embellished Guitar Straps:
The bag of the season. I love it.

17. XXL
Tendance mode automne-hiver 2016-2017 Doudounes en ville:
Everything is oversized. Jackets. Boots, Jewelry. Tip: Be careful that it doesn't overwhelm your silhouette.

18. Gypsy Rock
The long flowy silhouette is a trend I like. Bohemian tassels, beads, gemstones, bracelets over sleeves and gloves, mono or multi rings on your fingers, charms and amulets, multi-layering... Love.

19. Prints of the season
Animal, flora, geometric. In large doses on the runway. In small doses in real life. With the tartan and Prince of Wales check, you have the pick of the fashion litter.

20. Fabrics of the season
Lurex, satin, vinyl, feathers, fur, embroderies, velour, quilted.

So, they you have it. Which trends do you prefer? Let me know.

Day to Night Essentials

Greetings Fashionistas!

As a fashion stylist, I get to help women dress their best and find outfits that interchange with ease. That's why when I found this illustration, I wanted to share with you how to go from day to night with only a few changes.

Every woman should have a classic blazer. This essential is so versatile. Then, a bright lipstick adds a touch of color to your outfit. Followed by a statement necklace. I love a chunky necklace with a vintage feel. If you don't fancy something chunky, layer some long necklaces adorned with pearls and ornate pendants, and you've just added a personal touch. To your day to night outfit, take out the clutch you've stored in your work bag. A bold print or color will add some personality to your outfit. Finally, sexy and sophisticated heels will complete your outfit with panache. Here, you can go all out or keep it simple with a cute kitten-heel.

Organize Your Jewelry

Today, I want to share with you ways to organize your jewelry. As a professional organizer, I help my clients organize their closets with easy organizational tips and decorating ideas! I also help find ways to organize jewelry with some DIY ideas.

piddlyjunk: Book jewelry box by Victorian Maiden.:

So today is is all about ways to effectively organize your jewelry. If you are anything like me, you have a lot of accessories because you need something for every occasion! So when it comes to my jewelry, I want to keep them easily accessible and easy to grab as I am running out the door. My whole philosophy about organizing is that it should be an easy system to maintain, so I hope that these 4 tips for organizing jewelry help you stay organized!

Picture: Courtesy of Pinterest

  • Jewelry Box
Invest in a fantastic jewelry box. Not only does a jewelry box help keep you organized, but it helped protect your glorious jewelry. I always thought that jewelry boxes were only for my precious jewels. So I decided to create all sorts of other ways to store my jewelry. Don't you hate when all your necklaces end up tangled up? Or your earrings misplaced? Most jewelry boxes come with little drawers so you can organize your jewels. My suggestion is to find a box that will work with all of the jewels you own. I knew I have a lot of earrings, so I needed a box that had lots of space for earrings. This way, I know I will keep things organized because everything has its own place, instead of trying to cram everything into one small space.

  • Dollar Store Boxes and Picture Frames
For my bracelets and chucky necklaces, I use some pretty boxes I purchased at the Dollar Store. They not only hold and protect my beauties from dust and air. For my earrings, I took a picture frame and glued a piece of place mat that has some holes. It's easy to make and it looks super on my bureau. In this picture, I hung some necklaces on each side, and gave the frame some height with a couple of books(I wrote).

  • Color and Style-Coded
I keep my jewelry separate depending on the color and style. I keep them sorted based on color and style so I know what I have and can find something to pair with an outfit quickly. By keeping things color-coded, I am also able to see what colors or styles I might need to invest in. For example, when I am shopping and find an adorable necklace, I can visualize my jewelry box and picture if I have something similar. If I can’t visualize it, then I know I probably don’t have it! I also color-code my earrings and bracelets. It helps me keep my jewelry organized so I can find things quickly and easily!

  • Purge!
The biggest mistake people make when it comes to jewelry is holding onto pieces that are out of style, broken or have missing pieces. Go through all of your jewelry frequently to see if you are missing an earring or have a broken clasp on a necklace. If you don’t want to pay to get it repaired, then you need to purge it. Stop letting it take up precious space among the gorgeous jewelry that you wear!

So there you have it! Invest in a fantastic jewelry box, keep your jewelry color-coded and categorized, and purge jewelry frequently, will help keep all of your jewelry organized! Thanks so much for having me share some tips for organizing your jewelry!

So, there you have it!
Hope this helps you!
