Petite Woman: How to Dress Your Body

Happy Friday!

Today, I'm sharing with you a very helpful guide for the petite woman. If you are like me, not all tips fit for my body type. While searching for more helpful tips, I found this guide on Pinterest. One thing I've learned is not to be afraid of experimenting...no matter your age. For most of us, our bodies change for whatever reason. That's why we do our best to flatter the body type we have in this moment.

How to flatter different petite shapes One of my Facebook followers asked, “I would really appreciate some suggestions for petite women who are gaining weight at middle age.” Well, honestly, there are petite women of all ages who struggle with dressing their bodies. Some of us are born with or are able to create healthy and stunning bodies. Hooray! And then there are those of us who are little and a little rounded. Or little and a lot rounded. Or little with huge boobs. Or little with significan:

What I love about this guide is that it shows us the same dress but with different accessories and tops. Proportion is key. Also, the monochromatic look with accent accessories makes for the perfect outfit for petite women.

Which example looks best for you? Did this guide help you? Let me know.

Stay fabulous and have an awesome weekend!

Petite Woman: A guide to what to wear

Greetings fashionistas!

Today, I share with you another great guide for petite women.

Petite Size Guide YES! I'm 5'3" and finding clothes that fit perfectly is extremely difficult lol:

I love this guide I found on Pinterest. It not only gives you the size chart(which we all need) but also how to mesure ourselves for a better fit. Who doesn't want to feel comfortable in our clothes.

Are you a petite woman and having a hard time figuring out your size? Please let me know. I'm here to help you.

Petite Dressing: How to Look Taller

Happy Friday!

Today, I decided to share with you another style tip for petite women like myself.

It's not always easy to know what to wear when you mesure under 5 feet 4 inches. But it's possible.

column of colour tips to look taller, Imogen Lamport, Wardrobe Therapy:

I love this guide. It illustrates different outfits you can wear. Note the monochromatic detail in each outfit. This draws the eye from head-to-toe, giving the illusion of height.

This guide also gives us outfit ideas for the whole week. How great is that!

What do you think of this guide? Are you a petite lady and would like to share your stories? Please let me know.

Make Your Legs Look Longer

Greetings Fashionistas!

Are you a petite woman and would like to look a bit taller? I know this is something I strive to achieve every day.

Thanks to this fashion guide I found on Pinterest, my clothes and shoes will give the illusion of longer legs.

I love these simple tips. They show great examples on how to look a bit taller.

Monochromatic outfits is one tip I would add to this guide. Wearing the same shade helps the eye flow down the outfit. If you are wearing jeans with a white blouse, that's fine too. One last thing I would add about the monochromatic outfit, be careful with prints and colors. Too much is not a good thing. For example, leopard print or fluorescent colors.

What do you think? Need any help or advice about how to look taller? Please let me know.

Happy Friday Fashionistas!

We complete the series on earrings and face shapes today with the square face.

Earrings for Your Face Shape - Square | Inside Out Style:

Contrary to the rectangular(oblong) face, the best styles for your lovely square-shaped face is the long slender earrings and the hoops. Big chunky earrings will only fight with your fabulous angles.

The Right Earrings for Your Oblong Face!

Happy Monday!

Hope you had an awesome weekend! Thank you for your likes and shares last week!

Today, I continue my series on earrings and face shapes.

Earrings for Oblong Face, Imogen Lamport, Wardrobe Therapy, Inside out Style blog, Bespoke Image, Image Consultant, Colour Analysis:

An oblong face looks best with shapes like heart, tear-drops and hoops. Because your lovely face is more of a rectangular shape, it's best to avoid the long earrings.

Do you have an oblong face? What are your favorite styles to wear? Let me know.

The Right Accessories for a Round-Faced Girl!

Greetings fashionistas!

Earrings, necklaces and a round face. Finding the right style for you can be a daunting task.

In all my years as a fashion stylist, I have made it my mission to search for the best accessories and clothes for my body. Before Internet and Google, I had fashion magazines to show me which styles suited me best. It took me some time to figure that out. After years of trying out different styles and colors, I have found my own style.

This helpful guide found on Pinterest explains not only which styles of necklaces and earrings will suit you best, but it also shows which colors go best with your skin. How awesome!

The best earrings and necklaces for round face shape:

For your beautiful round face, choose long, vertically angular, drop or rectangle earrings. As for the necklaces, long, looping necklaces, creating a V are the best styles for you.

Fashion Through The Ages

Greetings Fashionistas!

Hope you had an awesome weekend!

Since I can remember, I've always loved fashion and have been intrigued with the way women have dressed through the centuries. When I found this Pinterest pin, I wanted to share with you.

ephemeral-:by eko bintang:

This illustration shows us how womenswear has changed over the 20th century. No more corsets, thanks in part to Coco Chanel who had revolutionized fashion.

Since the year 2000, I believe the trends don't have the same impact as they did before Y2K(remember this). I believe, today, every woman dresses the way she feels most comfortable. We mix and match styles taken from one decade or the other. We even borrow clothing and styles from men(caution, ladies when doing this).

What a wonderful time to be a woman!

Finding the Perfect Eyeglasses

Greetings fashionistas!

As a eyeglasses wearer since my teenage years, I've been intrigued to know which frame shape would best suit each person's face. It's not easy choosing the right frames. Our decision can be based on many factors such as style, trend or friend's opinion. Professionnal consultants at the optometrist's office or the eyeglasses store can be your best bet when choosing the right frames.

In my continuous search of helpful fashion and style tips, I discovered this Pinterest pin and wanted to share with you. Better knowledge of your features is always a good idea before purchasing your frames. That way, you make your choice with confidence and rock those frames!

After looking at this interesting chart, I'm happy to know that I have made the right frame choice for my oval face.

Petite Dressing: How to dress your silhouette

Greetings Fashionistas!

Since my teenage years, I've been a petite person. Therefore, I had to first accept my 5feet1inch. Then I had to learn to dress my small stature in a proportionate matter, while enhancing my best features. What a challenge!
In the 80s and 90s, we had no fashion websites, only fashion magazines and books. Thank goodness! The first fashion book I purchased was based on how to find your style. I loved it because it helped get inspiration from the stars. I loved Elaine from Seinfeld. In the 90s, I loved the way she dressed. Today, my star inspiration is Jennifer Aniston. Her simple yet elegant style resembles my style in many ways. But, I do like to add my personal touches like Boho Vintage Chic jewelry.
When I discovered this illustration on Pinterest, I immediately wanted to share this with you. It's inspired from celebs, which I think is great because we often get our inspiration from the stars. And, most importantly, it gives us tips on how to elongate and enhance our beauty. Please take note that this guide does not show us how to dress if you have a bigger bust. However, it does show in the "don't" part not to wear if you have a small bust. Check out my other posts about how to dress your silhouette!

Petite Clothing I'm a petite and Talbots is also a great source for petite pants and skirts . Target is an affordable option although some people complain that even the tiniest sizes are way too large for them. Pinterest:

Your Boyfriend's Jeans

Greetings fashionistas!

Are you into the boyfriend jeans look? As a fashion stylist and fashionista, I find this look very cool. Yet, before I try this trend, I wanted to know more.

Wearing a pair of your boyfriend's jeans might not fight you. Even with a nice belt, I don't think my petite stature could take the oversized jeans. So, when I found this illustration, I thought I would share this with you.

As you can see, this illustration also includes styling tips, which I like. Although, the jeans are borrowed from the men, our goal as a woman, is to make it our own. Feminity is key.

Greetings fashionistas!

The weekend is here! If you are like me, you cannot wait to slip on those comfy jeans. But what shoes to wear? That is the question!

We have so many options out there for shoes. Booties, sneakers, stilletoes... And depending on the type of jeans your wear, the shoes choice could look strange.

So, when I found this illustration on Pinterest, I had to share with you. This will definitely help me this weekend. According to this picture, my shoe choice hasn't been too bad. Thankfully, it gives you two choices, depending on the weather and type of activity you will be doing.

Finally, be careful about the type of jeans you wear. Make sure they fit your silhouette. In a recent blog post, I share with you tips on finding your perfect denim jeans.

Your Beautiful Self!

Happy Monday!

Hope you had an fabulous weekend. As I was thinking and researching for this post, I thought how wonderful it is to feel and look confident in our clothes.

For a long time, I have studied what looks good on my body type. For as far as I can remember, I thought my curvy thighs and derrière signified I possessed a pear-shape figure. Nothing wrong with that. But I was dressing my body the wrong way. I mesured myself and discovered, very recently, that I had an hourglass shape.

When I found this picture on Pinterest, I was happy to share with you, and hope with all my heart that this will help you.

Black Tie Event: What to wear?

Happy Friday Fashionistas!

I love Black Tie events. They are the unique occasions for us to dress up and look our best. For most of us, we only get to wear that special dress or suit once a year at the office Christmas party.

The first formal event I attended, was a corporate(formal) Christmas/Holiday party. I had no idea what to wear. Then, I remembered seeing Coco Chanel's picture of her wearing a simple black dress and pearls. Inspired by that image, I went shopping for the party a whole two weeks before in order to find that perfect dress. After visiting many stores, I had found the perfect black dress. It was long, flowy and classic. I think Coco would have liked my outfit. With the dress, I wore some pearls stud earrings and shiny diamond bracelet, and finished the look with some comfortable black booty shoes.

Of course, this party was back in 1998 and my fashion style has changed. Yet, the little black dress will always be a classic for me.

Below, I share with you Pinterest pins for women and men I found very interesting. It includes ideas for different Black Tie events.
As you may notice, accessories are very important. They complete the look.

Leggings: The Staple Piece for Every Girl's Closet

Happy Monday Fashionistas!

Hope you had an awesome weekend!  I started working from home eight months ago, and the transition from an office downtown to my kitchen table wasn't easy. It's a lot of planning and motivation.

I've also noticed how much I work in my pyjamas. It's fun but after a while, it got me down, and honestly it got boring. My morale took a hit. So about a week ago, I started wearing a bit of makeup, some simple earrings and a pair of comfy leggings with a nice tank top.

Now I wonder: How can I look stylish and comfortable? That is the question!

So I searched the worldwide web for some inspiration and here what I have found.

Some inspiring looks for home...

Some stylish tunics...

My favorite weekend looks...

Pictures: Pinterest

When wearing leggings, here are some styling tips every girl should follow to look their best.
1.  Leggings aren't pants, therefore please make sure the top falls at the hips and covers the derrière.
2. When going outside, wear layers. Scarves, cardigan, sweaters and jackets go well with leggings.
3. A great pair of boots or booties look awesome with leggings.
4. Buy at least 3 pairs of leggings. Charcoal grey, black and leather.
5. Invest in a good quality pair of leggings with a high and wide waistband.

Now, go rock those leggings, girls!

Coco Chanel: My Fashion and Style Icon

Happy Friday!

Last week, on August 19th, was Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel's birthday. Thanks to this fabulous and stylish lady, women around the world has a LBD(the little black dress) in her closet.

Mademoiselle Chanel in her early years, starting making hats and sold them to the rich and famous. Then, with the help of her friend Etienne Balsan, opened her first shop in Paris. And the rest, is history.

For me, Chanel is a fashion and style icon. With her innovations, she changed the world of fashion and the way women dressed. No more corsets or conventionnal ways of dressing for women. Halleluia!

As for jewelry, Chanel is the queen of costume jewelry. Thanks to her, women from every social status could wear nice jewelry that looked expensive. Glass beads and pearls for example, are my favorites.

What do you like about Coco Chanel? Let me know.

Starter Guide to Female Fashion

Happy Friday!

Since I was a teenage girl, I have loved fashion and style. Finding my own style was lots of fun and learning. Style is always redefined-- in my case anyway. I don't see myself wearing the same type of outfits I used to wear in my twenties. However, I do like mixing styles from the past with current trends. That's my ecclectic and unique style. I do keep things simple, feminine and classy. But I also like being unique in my own style.

When I found this guide on Pinterest, I had to share with you. It's the ultimate starter guide for female fashion. It helps you figure out which body type you are, finding the right fit for shirts, pants, shoes, and the color which suit you best. I think every girl and fashionista should have this guide.

Finding the right bathing suit!

Happy Friday Fashionistas!

Summer is still here and so are the pool parties, long days at the beach and lounging on the deck. Choosing the perfect bathing suit is not an easy job. There are different types of bodies, different body colors and different preferences. Before you direct yourself to the swimsuit store, there are some things you should consider first.

Know your body type
There are different body types – apple shape, pear shape, hourglass shape, and straight (banana shape). In order to find out which one belongs to you, you should measure your hips, waist, and bust.
  • If your hips are wider than your waist and bust, then you have a pair shaped body.
  • If your waist is equal or near as wide to your bust, but wider than your hips, then you have an apple shaped body.
  • If you have an hourglass shaped body that means your bust and hips are almost the same width, but your waist is smaller.
  • And if there is no visible difference between your bust, hips and waist, then you must have a straight type of body.

The color
There are different colors, which can highlight your best sides and hide some parts of your body that you don’t like. If you want to highlight a part you like, choose a bright pattern or color. But if you want to hide a part you don’t like, choose a solid color. If your skin is dark, use brighter colors for swimsuits. For pale skin, choose deeper tones, such as navy, dark purple, or black. If you want to highlight your bust, pick a swimsuit with ruffles on its top. The same goes if you want to highlight your hips. But if you want to hide the volume of any part of your body, use ruched or shirred fabric. You can also buy a bikini top and bottom in different colors, depending on which part of your body you’d like to show more.

The right cut
There is one more thing you should consider and it is the cut of your swimsuit.
  • If you want to hide your waist, choose a one-piece swimsuit in a dark color or with shirred panels over the stomach.
  • On the other hand, if you want to highlight your waist, use a tankini swimsuit.
  • If you want to make your legs look longer, choose a high-cut bikini bottoms.
  • If you have a big bust, but you want your hips to match it, choose boyshorts, regardless of color. Don’t bother if your bust isn’t big enough. You can attract attention on it by wearing triangle or halter top.
And finally, if you find it difficult to choose the right swimsuit by yourself, you can always ask a professional for help

Summer is the season when you have fun and show off, so don’t be ashamed or concerned about your body. Comfort should be the first thing you search for in a swimsuit. If you don’t feel comfortable in your own body, you won’t feel good. Just don’t forget to have fun and have a good time.
If you have any questions or need advice, please let me know.

Fashion Secret: How to hide your belly!

The darn belly fat! Yep, I admit I have it. When did it creep in on me? I have no idea. Maybe it's all the yummy desserts I baked during the winter...wink wink. The lack of exercise and stress have contributed to my physical transformation...sigh! Pilates twice a week, meditation and no more sweets are helping. In the meantime, while I work on getting my tummy down to a normal size, and fit back into my skinny jeans, I found these 10 most helpful tips to hide my belly and feel better about my physical apparence.

Fat tummy - hide tummy
A nice drape covers a tummy - red dress
A nice drape covers a tummy
1. Avoid all over baggy clothing – If you think a big loose top will hide a big belly, think again. Baggy tops and pants will exaggerate how big your tummy is. Instead, choose clothes that skim over your tummy without being tight. Clothes with a bit of built-in stretch will help you get a better shape.
2. Avoid tops with banded waistbands – They can hit your tummy at all the wrong places and draw you eye to your middle area.
3. Do not tuck in shirts – This will accentuate your belly and is not flattering.  (This does not apply to those who are a pear shape and have a small waist and flat tummy… you are fine to tuck in)
4. Don’t forget that a dress or top that drapes or has ruching is your friend! This red print dresshas draping that disguises a little extra weight in the tummy area and is slimming. Ruching (when the fabric is gathered and sewn down) also works well. Just make sure the ruching is subtle. Too much gathered fabric at your tummy make it look like you are wearing a curtain and add bulk.
5. Try a tunic and leggings –  A long flowing  tunic that covers your bottom worn with leggings and flats or boots is a great way to cover the tummy.
6. Medium rise jeans are the best to avoid the “muffin top” look –  Low rise jeans have been all the rage but for many of us it’s not a good look for us. Thank goodness midrise jeans are back in style. They like having a tummy tuck!
7. Opt for layers with thin long fabrics. – A long Tee under a longer cardigan works well. It will create the illusion that you are taller than you really are.
8. Try a fitted jacket as opposed to a boxier one –  Even if it means taking your jackets to the tailor it will be well worth it. Fit is key in looking slim in your clothing! Make sure your jacket nips in at the waist.
9. Monochromatic colors can help slim down a look –  Stick to one tone from head to toe and then add a jacket or lightweight cover up with a pop of color. Slimming!
10. Shapewear is the new girdle –  Shapewear comes in all styles and weights and can instantly slim your tummy down. If you’ve stayed away because you thought it was heavy and uncomfortable, you need to try some on. You’ll be surprised.
